1st Girls’ Hockey success
What a tremendous effort by our 1st Girls’ Hockey team who came away from the IAPS Nationals at Repton as the fourth best team in the country yesterday.
In the initial round robin, the girls played beautifully, beating Hurst, Twyford and Beeston Hall and losing narrowly to Foremark Hall. With their place secure in the knock-out cup competition later in the day, the coaches were able to rest several players for the final game of the round robin and the team played very well against Felsted.
In the quarter-finals the girls faced the unbeaten Orwell Park but St Andrew’s Prep dominated the game from the outset, winning 1-0.
On to the semi-final against Danes Hill where, with the score evenly balanced at 2-2 and with 30 seconds left on the clock, it looked as if extra time was on the cards. However, Danes Hill scored a wonderful goal and a last gasp shot by St Andrew’s Prep hit the post in the dying seconds of the match and denied the team a place in the finals.
In the 3rd/4th play-off, the team faced Foremark Hall whom they had lost to earlier in the day. Foremark scored shortly after half time and managed to stave off St Andrew’s dogged attacks to the end, leaving St Andrew’s placed fourth in the competition.
Many congratulations to the girls and their coaches and thank you to all those who have supported them.
