Table tennis success at St Andrew’s Prep
Earlier in the year the St Andrew’s Prep U13 boys A team, consisting of Daniel, Barney, Guillaume and Josh, were crowned champions at the Sussex leg of the Butterfly National schools Table Tennis final and therefore qualified for the regional finals.
Last weekend, the boys and their coach, Mr Reed, made their trip up to London to take part in the regional final, specifically the Zone 7 final, which consisted of 8 counties from Berkshire to Kent. After beating Cranbourne School (Hampshire), as well as Southend High School (Essex) in the group stages, the team advanced to the semi-final. The semi-final matches against St Albans School (Hertfordshire) were extremely close, however the boys managed to secure a place in the final after a 5-3 win.
Along came the final against Reading School (Berkshire), with two England ranked players on their side the matches were nail-bitingly close and unfortunately the team lost 5-3. Nevertheless, as runners up, the boys will advance to the regional finals in Bristol in the coming weeks and we look forward to hearing how they get on. We are extremely proud of Mr Reed and the boys’ achievement, especially as this is the furthest a St Andrew’s Prep team has advanced in table tennis in recent years.
