Drama trip to The Woman in Black
“Spine-chilling” and “the most terrifying live experience in the world” are comments made about the play The Woman in Black, which the Drama Masterclass saw at the Fortune Theatre in Covent Garden last week. This adaptation of Susan Hill’s novel uses sound and light on a strangely bare stage to create an atmosphere of horror and haunting. With only two actors (or were there three?), it is a remarkable show and the pupils enjoyed it very much, despite being somewhat terrified!
The day began with a visit to Shakespeare’s Globe and exhibition on the South Bank. It is always thrilling to walk into this extraordinary place and become aware of exactly how theatre looked in Elizabethan times.
It was a very valuable day for these enthusiastic young actors and will certainly enhance their own understanding of stagecraft and history.
