St Andrew’s Prep – home of sporting triumphs and blue health
St Andrew’s Prep is delighted to launch its new sports film which demonstrates the much envied grass-roots-to-elite sports programme offered by the school’s highly skilled and qualified coaches. This year, St Andrew’s Prep has won through to no fewer than five national championships in cricket, hockey, rugby, swimming and table tennis.
Our outstanding sports programme rivals all competitor schools in the locality and offers a vast array of options for pupils to choose from beyond our core sports of cricket, football, hockey, netball, tennis and rugby. Via early morning and after-school sessions, optional Saturday activities and the school’s wide-ranging co-curricular programme, pupils can also engage in sports such as athletics, badminton, equestrian, golf, rugby fives, sailing, shooting, and swimming.
The school draws on the expertise of ex-Olympians, international, national and county representatives to coach our pupils and they are supported by a highly qualified, skilled and experienced staff body.
Our elite athletes and sports scholars take part in local, regional, county and national competitions throughout the year but the school also competes in approximately 400 fixtures annually, offering every prep school child in the school, regardless of their ability, the opportunity to represent St Andrew’s Prep.
In 2017, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE, DL, 11-times gold medal Paralympian, opened the school’s stunning, multi-million pound Goodwin Sports Hall and Dance Studio, firmly placing the school amongst the best equipped prep schools in the south-east. Other on-site facilities include a shooting range, fives court, gym, dedicated dance studio, cross country routes, a 20m indoor swimming pool and two hard tennis/netball courts Off-site, the school makes daily use of Eastbourne College’s two full-sized hockey Astroturf pitches and cricket nets.
The school’s sporting programme all ties in very neatly with the school’s strong belief in ‘Blue Health’; where our outdoor activities, sea air, inspirational landscape and access to the sea all enhance mental health and well-being.
