Online safety talk
Last Friday, pupils from Year 5 to 8 were very fortunate to attend a talk by Sharon Girling OBE. She delivered a thought provoking and extremely relevant talk on Online Safety. The children learned about how their online presence can define their offline lives, and how it has consequences for their safety, further education, future employment and other life experiences.
Sharon also presented to the parents a very informative session on how to help children navigate the minefield that is the Internet. She gave parents and pupils a number of fantastic tips and essential guidance on using social media and ensuring that their devices were set up correctly and securely.
Sharon is a former police officer who retired from the Child Exploitation and Online Exploitation Centre (CEOP) following thirty years’ service. She was at the forefront of a national and international response to online child abuse and developed the processes and procedures that led to the creation of CEOP. Sharon was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen for her services to policing
