Richardson Recital, SING and more music updates
It was a particularly busy week for the Music department last week. Monday saw the first of this year’s Richardson Recitals. Pupils from Year 3 up to Year 8 performed solos on a variety of instruments. The audience was treated to brilliant performances on the drums, clarinet, piano, singing and trumpet, and a very fine piano duet. It was an excellent evening of music making which showcased the breadth of musical talent in the school.
On Tuesday, a group of Year 6 and 7 pupils visited Eastbourne College for the annual ‘SING!’ event. This was a fabulous day of singing led by Mr Jordan (Director of Music at Eastbourne College) and his staff. The programme covered artists from Thomas Tallis to hits from The Greatest Showman. It was an extremely varied day that culminated in an informal concert to a large audience of parents and friends. With over 100 children from nine different prep schools from across the South East, it was a truly exciting day. The children enjoyed a fabulous lunch in the Eastbourne College dining hall. They were also able to take part in some activities ranging from debating to various activities in the wonderful new sports facilities at the College.
A number of our pupils also participated in the Wind Band Festival at Lancing College on Thursday. A group of woodwind, brass and percussion players took part in the festival which involved a full day of band rehearsals in the inspiring Lancing Chapel. The day culminated in an open rehearsal which parents were able to attend, was more of a concert really – showcasing the excellent work that the children had put into the rehearsals.
Well done to all the pupils who took part in the two music days and Monday’s concert. We are very proud of them. Thanks also to the music staff at Eastbourne College and Lancing College.
