Many congratulations to Mary and Millie for winning three major cricket awards.
Mary won the Sussex Under 12 Players Player Award while Millie won the Sussex Under 12 Player of the Year Award. Millie also won the Overall Fair Player of the Year Trophy chosen from the whole of the Sussex Women’s Community. Millie’s father said, “Millie captained the side but, unusually, had to wicket keep due to illness of the regular keeper. She took a stumping and the last Dorset wicket was taken. The umpire gave the batsman out. The batsman walked but Millie called the batsman back in and asked the two umpires to reverse their decision as she felt the bails had been taken by her glove and not the ball. There was an on pitch conversation between her and the two umpires and the umpires allowed her decision and gave not out. The wicket fell two balls later and Sussex won the game. Sussex U12s were undefeated all season.”
While we’re at it, we should point out that the girls were also in the Eastbourne team that won the Sussex Ladies League this year. Well done girls.
