World Book Day 2019
Children and staff at St Andrew’s Prep have celebrated the much anticipated World Book Day today. Everyone dressed up to bring their favourite literary characters to life with costumes including Harry Potter, Paddington Bear and Mary Poppins. Well done to all those who put together wonderful outfits for the children who wore them so proudly today.
As part of this year’s celebrations, we welcomed children’s author and experienced workshop leader Nikki Sheehan. Nikki led a whole-school activity which saw the children create a collective poem using different word categories and she guided other activities aimed at stimulating their creativity. A large number of our children were delighted to purchase some of Nikki’s books and to get them signed by the author.
Over the course of the day, each year group visited the library to collect a free book token which we hope will encourage them to visit a book shop to build and establish a love of reading.
Members of staff joined the children in wearing fantastic outfits and Madiba, Pippi Longstocking, Pingu and Snow White were spotted walking the corridors. The Headmaster (or should we say Willy Wonka?) turned his study into a chocolate factory for the day and his sausage dog Dexter became a Cat in the Hat!
The library, at the heart of the school, has been buzzing with activity and it has been wonderful to see the children get excited by the magic of books. Long may this continue.
