Year 5 Trip To London
Friday was an “awesome day” for Year 5 (and the Year 8 pupils who had finished their Scholarship exams). The children visited the Portrait Gallery where they were split into groups to study, in detail, three paintings by Reubens. After a picnic lunch, the children walked down Whithall, taking in Horse Guards Parade, the Cenotaph and Downing Street before a stop-off at the Jewel Tower (built around 1365 to house Edward III’s treasures). Last but by no means least, the group headed to the Houses of Parliament.
With parliament dissolved due to the forthcoming general election and the building relatively empty, the group were treated to a tour which far exceeded the ‘usual’ and were shown areas which are usually off-limits to the general public. Staff and pupils were overwhelmed by Norman Porch, the Queen’s Robing Room and the Royal Gallery, the Prince’s Chamber, The House of Lords Chamber, the Central Lobby, the Members’ Lobby, the Aye Lobby and the House of Commons Chamber. Was it amazing? Aye.
