Year 5 visit to Battle Abbey
Year 5 learnt a great deal yesterday during their visit to the English Heritage site, Battle Abbey, where history was really brought to life. The children explored the atmospheric abbey ruins and stood on the very spot where King Harold is said to have died. They learned about the weapons used in the famous Battle of Hastings and the dramatic story of the Norman Conquest and its significance in the tumultuous history of England was examined. The children were in awe that they were walking in the footsteps of William the Conqueror and King Harold!
